Salim Patel is the Programme Manager for Transport for the North’s Strategic Rail Team. He will be speaking at the National Rail Recovery Conference on the work that Transport for the North is doing to bring together local transport authorities across the North of England with rail operators, Network Rail and the DfT around a co-ordinated and multi-facetted programme of measures to encourage a return back to rail use and a modal shift from cars to rail. The programme is expected to cover a wide range measures including marketing and fares initiatives, campaigns to restore confidence in rail use, and further work to ensure the rail offer can meet existing and new passenger expectations.
Salim Patel started his career at Network Rail delivering a number of enhancement projects and route improvement programmes. Salim also worked for Rail North Ltd, which co-managed the Northern and TransPennine Express franchises – becoming part of TfN when it became a statutory body in 2018. Salim has been responsible for the delivery of Strategic Rail’s key priorities working with industry and key stakeholders. Following the pandemic, he formed and led the North of England Contingency Group, bringing together partners and rail industry leaders in the North to help bring stability and guidance as the region manages its way through the current pandemic.
